The Best Places to Propose in Greenville

There is nothing like that thrill of going to the jewelry store and finally buying the ring. The ring sits there twinkling under the lights, and you can already envision it on her hand. With the biggest smile ever you head home with the most important thing you have ever purchased. You find the perfect hiding spot, there is no reason for her to check the back left corner of your underwear drawer……is there? From that moment on, you sit in fear that she is going to find it and your surprise will be ruined. You begin immediately thinking of the perfect way to ask her, but the biggest question is where? Where is the perfect place to ask for her hand in marriage? Great news, your friendly neighborhood wedding photographer has you covered.

THE TOP 5 PLACES TO PROPOSE IN GREENVILLE, SC

Ok, so first off I highly recommend you propose at a place that is incredibly special to the two of you. Is it the location of where you first met? The spot of your first date. The very place you were standing when you knew she was the one? Or maybe you’re a homebody that is scared to death of proposing in public, well popping the question at home is totally cool too - I should know, that’s exactly how I did it. If none of those ring true for you, well let me tell you what I think are the best places in Greenville to propose:

1. Falls Park on the Reedy - The Greenville Classic

Why it works: Falls Park really does offer it all. The stunning views from the bridge, down by the falls surrounded by the lush gardens is out of this world. It really is a timeless spot and it is incredibly photogenic.

Best Time: Sunset/Golden Hour. The light that is in the park during this time is stunning. Everything seems to glow, and the ring will sparkle in that light too!

Proposal Tip: Take a casual stroll through the park and over to the bridge. Pause for a quick photo - wink wink. and the drop to a knee with the falls to your back. If you want it more private, head to the gardens in the back right corner of the park.

Photographer’s Note: I have shot numerous proposals in the park. There really is no bad area. So rest easy knowing that where ever you choose to hit your knee will look amazing!

2. Paris Mountain State Park - For the Nature Lovers

Why it works: It is super close to everything in Greenville and the surrounding areas. It has gorgeous serene lakes, wooded trails, and incredible panoramic views. It is perfect for a private proposal set in nature away from the crowds.

Best Time: If you can swing early morning you get a beautiful soft light, almost no hikers, and the mist of Lake Placid is magical.

Proposal Tip: Pick a spot by the lake or at the summit overlook. Bring your picnic set up, and then pop the question just as the sun is peeking through the trees.

Photographer’s Note: The entire park is full of amazing framing from the trees and this creates a gorgeous soft light all day. As a bonus, all the trees and bushes make for a great spot for your photographer (ME) to hide and capture the surprise.

3. Downtown Greenville’s Skyline - Urban Romance

Why it works: There is nothing more charming that Greenville’s downtown. The trees with the lights, and all the history, what place good be better? You can plan to propose along Main Street, or head up to one of the many rooftop locations. This is modern romance at its best.

Best Time: Wait til twilight. That magical moment just after the sunsets and the sky turns purple, that is the good stuff. When you pair that with the warm glow of the street lights, how could she possibly say no?

Proposal Tip: Plan a romantic dinner at one of Greenville’s amazing restaurants. Then casually take a quick walk to roof top bar or over to One City Plaza for your time to shine.

Photographer’s Note: The street lights make for amazing photos downtown, and you can even have your photographer hide in plain sight downtown. All of this screams a Greenville Love Story.

4. Cleveland Park - Greenville’s Hidden Gem

Why it works: Cleveland Park is honestly underrated. You get beautiful winding paths, a stunning bridge, and a very peaceful location right outside of the heart of downtown. It is perfect if you are looking for a low-key proposal spot.

Best Time: Mid Morning. The sun will be just high enough so that the light filters through the trees, but it will still be very light on the traffic front.

Proposal Tip: I love the idea of a simple picnic near one of the ponds. You could even propose on the wooden bridge. That has a very Hallmark love story feel.

Photographer’s Note: The greens and the soft light in this area will make for timeless images. You won’t have to worry about weird lighting or unflattering shadows, which is a plus.

5. The Cliffs Vally Overlook - Epic Views

Why it works: It is a short drive outside of Greenville, but it is totally worth it for the incredible mountain views that will leave her speechless. It is not only epic views, but its also private, and will be unforgettable!

Best Time: That late afternoon golden hour. This time of day the Blue Ridge Mountains will be popping!

Proposal Tip: Drive up for a romantic get away, then pull over at the overlook. From here just keep it simple. The views can do the talking for you, other than asking that question of course.

Photographer’s Note: I love going wide angle here. Getting the vastness of the views paired with your intimate moment is incredible!
