A Brief History:
Fred W. Symmes Chapel (also known as "Pretty Place" because of its amazing view) is one of the many buildings that make up YMCA Camp Greenville. It was given by Mr. Fred W. Symmes for the enjoyment of the boys and girls who camp here each summer and is the spiritual center of the camp.
The current chapel was constructed in 1941 with several additions and improvements made in subsequent years including major upgrades made in 2012 and 2018.
Accommodations:
Pretty Place has very adequate parking, restrooms for your guests, sound system, and bridal suite. The best part is there’s no need to worry about the weather as the chapel is covered. There is a cross located at the altar of the chapel, but it can be removed leaving just the stone stand in its place.

A Few Pro Tips for Your Pretty Place Wedding:
The bridal suite: yes it is there and it functions well as a place to get dressed. Do know that it is small, like really small. There is no natural light in this room, only some over head lighting. So if your entire wedding party is planning to get ready together, then my advice is to do so elsewhere.
Distance: From most anywhere in Greenville you are looking at about an hour drive to get to the venue. Keep this in mind when building out your schedule for the day, especially for getting one to the reception on time. Another note about the drive up and down the mountain….it is a lot of switchbacks and sharp turns, so it is a good idea to take Dramamine before heading up if you get motion sickness.
Photography: If you can manage it, try and book either the sunrise time slot, or the sunset time slot. This will give you the most dynamic images of your wedding ceremony. And to take some pressure off of your schedule, know that there are some gorgeous locations coming up and down the mountain to grab some other photographs.
